Cemeteries in Weesatche
The Christian Church Cemetery is off FM Road 884 West on the northwest bank of the West Coletto Creek. It was purchased in 1868, and changed owners four or five times but the burying ground reserve was always honored. The oldest stones show burial dates of 1878 and 1879. There are about two dozen graves there with about 20 legible stones at present.
Adjoining and to the north of the Christian Church Cemetary lies the Mexican Cemetary. There are about 50 graves, most marked with wooden crosses and some formed from cement. Most show dates from the early 1900's. One gravestone gives the whole family history end is surrounded by an iron fence. There is also a memorial monument with 36 names below a tall cross.
The old Methodist Cemetery is located on the north side of the Holliman Lane which intersects Highway 119. There is controversy as to the actual denonimination Of this cemetery. In the late 1850's there was a church located near the cemetery and it is believed to have been a Methodist or Christian church.
The Woodlawn Cemetery is on FM 884 east of Highway 119. Most of the older graves are from the late 1870's, but a few have been found pre-dating that period, severe1 dating back to the 1860's. The upkeep of the cemetery was taken over by the Methodist Church Perpetual Care of Yorktown. The cemetery is in a lovely location with large oak trees shading the graves and many wild flowers covering it in the spring.
Weesatche Cemetery, is 1ocated off Highway 119. (An extension to the east off of Main St.) Dates are found from the early 1900's. It has about 125 paves.
Barnes Cemetery with about 17 marked and unmarked graves is a Black Cemetery. It is south of St. Andrew's Luthern Church on the Old Goliad Road.
The St. Andrews Luthern Cemetery lies directly behind the St. Andrews Luthern Church. It is off Highway 119 on the Old Goliad Road.
